Long gone are the days of looking at classifieds in the local newspaper. These days, if you need something, all you have to do is visit Craigslist. This Web site can be a great resource for college students, as long as they practice caution when contacting sellers and always meet them at neutral locations.

College students tend to move around a lot, whether it is because they want to live in a different place or find a different roommate. Craigslist has a "Housing" section where you can search for available apartments or housing, rooms and shares, and listings of people who want housing. When you are looking for someplace to live, search the "apt/housing" section for available rentals, or if you need someone to live with as, you can look at the "rooms and shares" section, where people post listings for their empty rooms. These listings typically include a general description of the housing, and information about its location, rent amount, and whether or not pets are allowed.

As a freshman living on campus, everything is provided for you, but when you decide you want to move into someplace more spacious you are going to need furniture and appliances to function in that space. These types of large purchases are not always budget friendly, and since neither you or your roommates are likely to have a few hundred dollars to spare, second hand is the way to go. On the "For Sale" section on Craigslist you can search listings for appliances, furniture, electronics, and household items. If your roommate already has an entertainment center but not couch to put in front of it, you can contribute to the household by buying one that someone else is trying to get rid of.

When you are in college, working 9 to 5 is not an option and finding college friendly employment can be difficult. On the "Jobs" section on Craigslist, you can search for job listings by categories, such as adminstrative and office, general labor, retail and wholeslae, and part-time. Employers typically list a description of the work they need done, the qualities they are looking for in a candidate, general area the job is located in, salary range, and who to contact to apply. If you are hesitant to commit to a regular job and have some extra free time during the day or on weekends, it might be worth your while to periodically check the local listings.
