Art
The art major is usually broken down into a number of distinct disciplines, including choices as diverse as studio art, art theory, graphic design, art photography, and interior design. However, when most people think of an art major, what first comes to mind is studio art. Studio art majors are designed to equip students with the skills they need to become successful visual artists. They will learn the principles behind effective visual communication, and numerous techniques of expressing themselves through various media, such as pencils, watercolors, charcoal, metals or clay. Courses you may encounter as an art major include: figure drawing, sculpture, mold-making & casting, painting, critical theory, art history, printmaking and woodworking.
If you have natural artistic talent, it is a smart move to pursue your talent in college as an art major. Art is also a solid major choice for people who think outside the box and do not like the idea of any stereotypical career that requires them to sit in an office and become stagnant. Art majors have gone on to become photographers, graphic designers, art teachers at the high school and college levels, cartoonists, art critics and writers and page designers for print media. Other art majors proceed to open their own studios, making a living from the sales of their art, which could include anything from paintings to pottery.
