Ceramics
Ceramics majors are professional artists in the making. This fine arts discipline involves the technical aspects of ceramics processes and construction, as well as demonstrating personal ideation and creativity through ceramic installation. Throughout the degree program, students will participate in self and group critiques to communicate their visual and conceptual ideas, while helping others improve their artistic skills. Students will mostly study the artistic development and construction of ceramic pieces, as well as the scientific components and processes of ceramics. Ceramics majors will likely take classes in 2D and 3D design, drawing, as well as hand building, wheel throwing, mold making and casting, clay and glaze chemistry and problems in installation.
Graduates in ceramics will be qualified to enter a number of fine arts careers, such as working as a designer in a ceramic industry, teaching ceramics or starting their own business. A ceramics major is perfect for students who are deeply interested in ceramics and other fundamental arts, and want to produce their own artwork through skilled instruction. Whether you are a seasoned or beginner artist, a ceramics degree program will enhance your technical knowledge of crafting ceramics and expand your level of creativity.
