Child Care
A child care curriculum teaches students how to foster a safe, healthy and interactive environment, in which children of all ages can thrive. Students will learn about the development of young children, specifically their social, emotional and cognitive learning stages. They will also learn how to handle disciplinary issues, recognize good behavior and remain in control during stressful or difficult situations. Throughout the program, students will work with children in various child care settings to evaluate and practice their classroom management skills. They will also be instructed on how to increase children’s language and socialization skills, as well as enhance their creativity and independence. Students will take classes in child growth and development, positive guidance and communication skills with children, early childhood practicum, health and safety and other courses that involve child development and care taking.
Child care graduates will be qualified to work in various settings that require caring, teaching and monitoring children. Many students will go on to work in the child care industry, where they can work with and manage children in a classroom-like setting. Students who love children and want to be a positive force in their lives are well suited for a child care degree. In addition, students who are patient, caring and social will find a child care education a natural transition for them.
