Classics

A classics major is the foundation for understanding all aspects of Greek and Roman culture. Students will explore various subjects of poetry, mythology, philosophy, history, religion, art and more influential topics of the Greco-Roman culture. This liberal arts degree will most often emphasize language and literature of original Greek and/or Latin, as well as Greek and Roman culture and classical archaeology. Throughout the classics program, students will be able to analyze the Western world by understanding the culture and historical influences of Greco-Roman times. Much of the classics curriculum is centered on world literature, intensive writing and discussions. Students will take classes in ancient epic narrative, Latin literature, mythology, Roman civilization, performance in Rome, Greek readings and much more.

Classics majors are qualified to work in a number of professions that require worldly knowledge, excellent communication skills and intellectual rigor. Graduates of a classics program go on to become lawyers, doctors, finance and banking professionals, as well as college professors, literary agents and speechwriters. History buffs, avid readers and story tellers alike, are sure to find their niche in a classics major. A classics major will allow student to obtain a well-rounded liberal arts education, while exploring the historical, literary and cultural influences of the Greek and Roman civilization.
