Dance

A dance major will help students develop their physical skills and dancing techniques, in addition to teaching them about the history, theory and science of dancing. Students will study a variety of dance forms such as ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, ethnic, disco, salsa and folk dance. They will also learn about fundamental and influential dance moves, such as the fox trot, jig, waltz and tango. Students will also study dance education and choreography, so they can improve their own dance skills and teach others. Dance students can expect to take classes in dance history, dance education, dance notation, dance theory, philosophy and criticism, as well as technical production, world dance and body conditioning.

Graduates of a dance class will be eligible to work in a variety of careers, such as choreography, athletic training, performing arts, recreational therapy, physical therapy, as well as education and art administration. Those who are passionate about dancing and enjoy learning about the different types of dance forms, moves and techniques will find their niche in this program. Students should be prepared to challenge their bodies doing daily dancing exercises, as well as doing dance rehearsals and choreography classes.
