Economics majors are designed to equip students with a thorough understanding of the way goods and services are produced, distributed and consumed. Students will learn about supply and demand, what happens when the market becomes saturated with certain items, and how businesses and corporations determine how much they will charge for certain goods or services. Also involved in this is the affects of marketing on buyer behavior. Students will study microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics and calculus at the onset. Upper-division classes will discuss economic law, economics throughout history, international economics, economics in politics and sociology, and the economics of banking, to name a few. One of the hallmarks of any good economics program is hearty discussion on economics as it pertains to current events, such as the economic situation in the U.S. today.
