Education Administration
Education administration is a major typically offered at the master’s level and is designed to prepare students for leadership positions in school environments. These environments might include preschools, child care centers, elementary schools, intermediate schools, middle schools and high schools across the country. The major equips students with the communication, organizational and managerial skills necessary for increasingly demanding jobs at the helm of schools. Students will learn the major factors that impact education—such as government funding and political mandates, and will learn how to effectively run successful educational programs. They will also learn how to balance budgets and oversee numerous personnel. Courses you may encounter in an education administration major include: curriculum development, evaluation and implementation; research methods in education; community relations; and school law.
Students who care deeply about the quality of America’s schools should consider majoring in education administration. The major is especially useful for experienced, certified teachers who wish to become qualified to enter an administrative position in a school environment. The major can also prepare you for a number of careers, including district superintendent, director of curriculum & development, director of mentorship, director of community relations, director of public information, principal or assistant principle. Some who develop successful programs may even enter educational consulting positions or proceed to teach at the college level. Others take up leadership position in state or federal education departments.
