Engineering
Engineering majors learn how to develop inventive solutions to problems through the use of mathematics and science. They also learn how to utilize technology in order to find solutions to problems related to aeronautics, mass transportation, environmental pollution, and medical science. Common areas of engineering include civil, mechanical, chemical, electrical, and industrial. Engineering majors will take classess in calculus, chemistry, physics, technology, mechanics, thermodynamics and engineering economics. They then typically choose a specific area of engineering to concentrate on and take classes related to that industry, such as engineering analysis, materials science, electronics, and engineering design
The engineering field is diverse and offers a variety of career options in the areas of research, business and consulting. Engineers can work on project teams, as independent consultants, or go into the public or private industry. Employment opportunities are typically available with communications equipment manufacturers, business and engineering firms, and with the Federal, state, and local government. Scientific and mathematical thinkers, who enjoy studying data, solving problems, and working with others, should consider a major in engineering. This major might also interest creative, logical thinkers who desire to improve the quality of everyday life through new technology.
