Web Design
Navigating the internet is a daily necessity for the majority of people in this country. Easy-to-use and aesthetically pleasing websites aren’t always easy to find amid the clusters of resources with which we’re presented. That’s why web designers are important. Students in the major focus on interface and usability. They must combined design with technology, which is what sets them apart from the more limited graphic design major; though web designers focus on design more than web developers. It’s important that consideration is given to their audience, and thus political, social, legal and ethical matters related to the web industry are studied. Basic skills are learned in HTML, CSS, Java, SQL and Flash. Courses within the web design major often relate to visual communication, programming and data structures, computer networks, computer imaging and web usability.
A new generation of creative and technologically driven professionals has entered the workforce. Although web-related jobs aren’t as popular as they were during the ’90s, employers are always looking for competent web designers to create appealing sites that will positively represent their businesses and organizations. Some graduates go on to work for small private businesses, while others may join big corporations. They can simultaneously help contribute to their community by designing websites for nonprofits. Like other creative fields, they can do freelance work and become completely financially independent.
